The Ginger Trifecta PART I

Thrifting—it’s like a sample sale, a garage sale and an endurance sport all had a mutant, awesome baby.

Thrifting is intimidating. Where’s my size? Where do I begin? Why is there maternity mixed in with menswear? Why would they organize by color instead of size? Where’s the other shoe? Where’s the price tag? Who buys underwear at these places??

So today, the Ginger Trifecta tackles thrifting. My two best girlfriends here in San Diego and myself have it down to a science and we are here to share strategy and show off some of the weekend’s booty. (lolz no real booty, sorry to disappoint)

And you don’t have to be a carrot top to master this—that’s pure coincidence.

Although my sister does have a theory that redheads cluster because one friend will tend to “collect” redheaded friends because they are inherently more awesome. Go figure.

Anna-Christina, 23, from Dallas, Texas. Percent of wardrobe thrifted: 85%
Do you have a strategy when thrifting?
It’s an endurance sport. Always go in with a full stomach and clothes that you can take on and off easily—because you’ve got to streamline the dressing room process!
What are you always drawn to?
Ridiculous shit. Outrageous pieces that I would never buy if it wasn’t under ten dollars.
What is the best find you’ve scored recently?
Some insane purple, embroidered platform wedges!
Total Cost of Outfit Pictured: $72 (the vintage Frye boots were $60)

Disney, 25, from Mobile, Alabama. Percent of wardrobe thrifted: 10%
Do you have a strategy when thrifting?
I don’t like digging. I find the thing with the coolest print and then pick it! I thrift housewares more than clothes.
What are you always drawn to?
Prints. Lots of colors. Lots of little detail and metal studs!
What is the best find you’ve scored recently?
Some tan t-strap heels! $3 at Kobey's swap meet! You can’t find shoes that cheap anywhere!
Total cost of outfit pictured: $29 (jewelry is vintage from Mom!)

Jessie, 22, from Ventura, California. Percent of wardrobe thrifted: 15%
Do you have a strategy when thrifting?
I go in with a completely open mind. I use thrift stores to get out of my bubble, explore.
What are you always drawn to?
Hmmm… never anything super bright.
What is the best find you’ve scored recently?
The dresses. They’re always new looking and under ten dollars!
Total cost of outfit pictured: $37 (jewelry is vintage from Mom and Grandma!)
