Graffiti and Animal Slices

The other day, a huge, bright orange Monarch butterfly breezed through the 1 inch crack above my driver's side window, swooshed past my face and landed on my gear shift. Flustered, I offered it a finger to step up on, like you would a parrot, and it worked. I safely transported him back outside lightly perched on my finger.

Last night, we saw friend's bands play.

I am passionate about jewelry. Especially necklaces and rings. And I love men wearing necklaces. I saw some goods ones last night.

Matt's (above) is a dogtag and a real bear's claw on a shoe string. I wish you could see the claw.. I'm wearing a thrifted skirt, thrifted surf-fabulous rib-detail crop top, thrifted tuxedo blazer and my beautiful new Fiorentini and Baker sandal heels. Talk about sumptuous, worn-in black leather.

And here are some ultra thin slices of animals in plastinate. Enjoy.

A Gallon of Blood on the Porch

Jack came home most nights last week with blood-stained hands. Last night he walks in with a gallon of the stuff- a cocktail of corn syrup, red velvet cake mix, whatever else- and I take one look: "NOT IN THE HOUSE. NO BLOOD IN THE HOUSE".

So there it sits. A gallon of fake blood on the porch. Talk about macabre. He'd been doing the special effects makeup for Hostility Hotel, being shot in Dallas starring Duane Peters and Chapel Waste.

We went and saw The Aquaholics on Saturday night at July Alley. I. Love. Surf Rock. perfectly punk-infused surf rock covers of Miserlou and In the Hall of the Mountain King (a song I will absolutely never get tired of in any of its reincarnations-- techno remixes, anyone?)

And now for something unfathomably beautiful. If you put enough rare elements into the atmosphere, say via volcano, there's going to be an incredible electrical storm.

That Sabertooth is made of fused glass. I wish I remembered the artist. Note to self: tag photos better.

Bohemian Love Nest

I have an enormous balcony patio. It's literally the same size as my dining room and maybe kitchen too. It's screened in by budding cedar elms and oaks and feels quite like a tree house. I often read out there eating my yogurt and granola and want to build a bohemian love nest in one corner so that I may unashamedly sprawl out and partake in a lazy summer afternoon nap. This is the recipe for a perfect bohemian love nest.

Those last two pillows are by Scout and Catalogue, who also has a blog that I adore. It instills a deep craving in me to expate to Mexico.

Speaking of Mexico, Kingsolver's newest takes place in romantic, old Mexico city inhabited by Frida Kahlo and Trotsky. Long, plodding, epic and poetic.

A scrumptious note to leave on: a ring found on Sun in Scorpio

All but clothes.

Pomegranates were on sale at the farmer's market. But well past their prime. Inedible, but photogenic. This post is dedicated to everything but clothes. Really, just some of my recent purchases, which happen to be mostly accessories.

First, the gold safety pin. Handmade, 4 bux. By HotWired. No makeup on, had just gotten out the pool after doing some laps.

I'd been in the mood for a wide, hefty, hammered silver band. And found just the thing by Elizabeth Scott. It's called the Shoreline Ring and I was able to order it in a 4.5!

Silk thread anklets, a dollar a pop, from Walmart (which I don't condone, but I do condone being a student and, well, you do the math). When I picked them out, Jack said, "Man. You are a hippie."

My friend, Derek, popped by with a sample vial of D&G 10. It smells like rotten fruit and rape fantasy. I think it'll be my summer scent.

Tips. Still haunting me.
